I should be on the trail for about 6 to 8 weeks and will post some updates here, most likely. The trail is 800 miles long and runs from Coronado National Memorial on the Mexican border up to the Utah line with a Grand Canyon crossing.

Get ready!

Matt

Nothing new. We split up in Seattle. Some stayed there. Jeff and I biked down to Portland in the Seattle-to-Portland road race with was perfectly timed to our schedule. The was free food and camping along the way to boot. Check out our weblog: TransAmerica Bike Posse . The Blog has tons of pictures from our trip, so it may load slowly on a dial-up connection. I'll be riding across Washington for a second time with Gracie starting tomorrow as she finishes her awe-inspiring coast-to-coast unicycle trip. Then it's off to southern Colorado to spend the rest of the year working at Broadacres Ranch in Creede. From there it's up in the air-- just the way I like it.

Over n out.

Saturday, June 03, 2006

Location: Carbondale, IL

Coast-to-coast bike trip is underway. The riding has been challenging thus far coming through the Appalachians, but we've all held up okay. Sadly, Daniel took a spill on some gravel coming down the mountain on US 58 and had to get some stitches. He should heal up fine though.

Trail Days Appalachian Trail festival is going on in town today so there is lots to do. Hopefully I'll have a longer update for everyone once we hit Lexington Kentucky next week.

Once again, school's underway and I'm busier than I'd like to be. So don't expect much till the excitement starts kicking up in the spring as I gear up for the potential bike trip across America.

I had some sweet news about my successful attempts to power a bicycle with a chainsaw motor, but the bike was stolen shortly after completion off my front porch, where it was locked up. Needless to say, this enraged me. That's the second bike this year. This just adds to the list of reasons why I'd rather be somewhere besides Duke University. Last night, I heard a 2-cycle engine cruise past my house, but pursuits in my vehicle were too far behind to yield any leads on the new whereabouts of my stolen bike.

I got to check off another item on the list of cool things to do this weekend: I saw the Rolling Stones live at Duke with my brother, Jon Kling, and Gracie. Of course we found a way out of the "cheap" seats down to the good ones in time to see "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" up close. Phenom...

The robotics project for my design class involves making a basketball-playing robot. We hope to be a dunking machine, cranking out the points like Shaq.

That's all for now
